Cupcakes: From the Cake Mix Doctor

The cupcake is America’s darling. It’s celebrated in upscale bakeries, on Sex in the City, on the cover of Gourmet, and in thou-sands of classrooms—where every day, it seems, a parent has sent in a batch for the kids to share. The very word conjures up whimsy, coziness, pleasure, nostalgia. Not to mention the fact that their diminutive size means you can eat a lot of them.

Once upon a time, a family had only two recipes for cupcakes—chocolate and vanilla. Not anymore. Now Anne Byrn brings them to the next level. And who better? Recognized as the master of cake-mix baking, Anne is the author of The Cake Mix Doctor and Chocolate from the Cake Mix Doctor, which have a total of over 1.8 million copies in print. In Cupcakes she offers 135 tempting recipes for children and grown-ups, for special days and everyday, lunch bags, holiday festivities, and an unexpected dinner party dessert.

I love to bake, and appreciate the convenience a mix can offer....but have never liked their flat and artificial taste. Scratch baking is great, but is a lengthy process with an even lengthier ingredient list! This book combines the best of both worlds - a mix with a few added ingredients that result in a moist flavorful cupcake. New bakers will benefit from the "keep on hand lists" and "tips for success" while more experienced bakers will enjoy experimenting with different cake / frosting combo's.

Their are great frostings in the book - all are from scratch, all are easy, and all will insure that no one knows or cares the cakes started with a mix! philly cream cheese cake recipes

This is a great collection of cupcake (and also muffin) recipes, with some really good ideas on how to turn out fantastic cupcakes. The tips and hints throughout the book are also really helpful, for instance offering ideas on what can and can't be substituted in the recipes. On the negative side, I thought there could have been more colour pictures of what each cupcake looked like when finished, as only a handful of the cupcakes are featured in colour in the front of the book. Also, if you are like me and live outside the US, be prepared to find that some packages of things like cake mix and instant pudding (which are the basis of most of these recipes) are different weights than those called for in the book.

Southern Cakes: Sweet and Irresistible Recipes for Everyday Celebrations

Taste the chocolatey goodness of Mississippi Mud or marvel at the extravagant elegance of the Lady Baltimore and there will be no doubt that Southerners know how to bake a cake. Here are 65 recipes for some of the most delicious ever.

Jam cakes and jelly rolls; humble pear bread and peanut cake; whole chapters on both chocolate and coconut cakeseach moist and delicious forkful represents the spirit of the South. A Baking 101 section offers the cake basics, some finishing touches (that means frosting and lots of it!), and the how-to's of storing each lovely concoction so that the last slice tastes as fresh and delightful as the first.

I received this cookbook as a Christmas gift three years ago and have loved baking these cakes ever since. The instructions are clear and concise. So clear, in fact, that every cake I have baked has come out of the oven looking and tasting even better than I imagined. Another benefit of this book is that it has a section dedicated to frosting, icing, and fillings that you can mix and match with the standard cakes. For me, the only drawback is that it contains an entire section devoted to cakes that contain coconut, of which I am not a fan; however, as coconut is a staple of southern desserts, it does make the cookbook more comprehensive. philly cream cheese cake recipes

I absolutely love this book! Several of these cakes became instant favorites at family gatherings, birthdays, holidays, and to bake as gifts. Among my favorites are: Gigi's Caramel Cake, Pineapple Upside-Down Cake, Mississippi Mud Cake, Blueberry Cake from Shenandoah Valley, Thibodeaux Doberge Chocolate Cake, Red Velvet Cake, and Carrot Cake. Also, I love to make the Everyday Confectioners' Sugar Frosting as a dip for Chocolate Cats, cookies from Trader Joe's. It tastes similar to an Oreo cookie and allows you to vary the amount of frosting as you see fit. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of absolutely phenomenal cakes.

Rosie's Bakery All-Butter, Fresh Cream, Sugar-Packed, No-Holds-Barred Baking Book

They're full of butter, cream, eggs, sugar, and sometimes the chocolate doesn't quit. But the cakes, cookies, pies, and goodies assembled in Rosie's Bakery are hands-down the best you'll ever taste. And aren't you worth the treat?

A nationally celebrated baker from Boston, Judy Rosenberg shares 200 of her recipes, including Pieces of Cakes: Rosie's Famous Sour Cream Chocolate Layer Cake, The Queen Raspberry, The Velvet Underground. The Smart Cookies: Orange-Pecan-Chocolate Chip Cookies, Gingersnappers, Sunken Kisses, Very Short Shortbread Cookies. The Harvard Squares: Extra Extra Fudgy Brownies, Chunky Chocolate Bars, Honeypots, Linzer Bars. The Cutie Pies: All-American Apple Pie, Blueberry-Plum Crumb Pie, Nectarine Synergie, Raspberry Chiffon Pie. And The Old Smoothies: Bourbon Bread Pudding, Pumpkin Caramel Custard, Truffle SoufflS.

Along the way, the author proves to be a trusted and knowledgeable guide who reveals almost all the hard-won secrets of her baking success. She lists her five basic rules of baking, and gives instructions on how to mix, bake, remove, serve, and store every different kind of baked good-from angel food cakes to filled pastry cookies. Winner of a 1991 IACP/Julia Child Cookbook Award. 181,000 copies in print. philly cream cheese cake recipes

I picked up this book about 15 years ago in a second hand bookstore in Phoenix, Arizona for $5.50 (still penciled on the inside cover). I have tried almost every recipe in the book since then. I can't say a bad thing about any one of the recipes but some have become family classics. The carrot cake, the cheese cake, the pineapple upside cake and the chocolate chip cookies. Over the years these are the recipes that have become referred to as "your delicious carrot cake... And Rosie's pastry recipe is still my go to pastry for everything. All the recipes are easy and fool proof. I love cook books but generally only get one or two good fool proof recipes out of each book. At full price that makes the cost of most books fairly expensive. But this book is worth its wait in gold.

Carrot Cake Murder (Hannah Swenson Mysteries With Recipes)

Between baking up a storm for The Cookie Jar and unravelling the mystery of her cat Moishe's recent strange behaviour, Hannah Swensen has a lot on her plate. But she'll always make time for her business partner, Lisa, who's in the midst of preparing for a big family reunion. Everyone is delighted when Lisa's long-lost uncle makes a surprise appearance. No one has heard from Gus in twenty-five years. Uncle Gus is immediately the hit of the reunion.

He's almost as popular as Hannah's scrumptious carrot cake, which is also Gus' favourite dessert. But the next morning, as the whole family gathers for the group photo, one person is missing. Hannah offers to track down Uncle Gus, but her search leads to a shocking find. Over by the bar at the pavilion, she spots two slices of her infamous carrot cake, frosting-side down on the floor - and Gus' corpse with an ice pick jutting out of his chest! Now Hannah's got to sift through a long list of suspects to find a killer - even if it could mean a recipe for her own demise...

I have read all of them up till now, there are still 3 left on my kindle I think..... sign.... I kind of like them, because of the cozy aspect, but they are getting boring.... but I have to read the rest of them.... will she every evolve and grow up???

I mean, to be honest, Hannah is getting older, but not more mature and wiser and cleverer. No, she is not clever at all, otherwise she wouldn't make the same mistakes over and over and wouldn't string along Mike and Norman, what is quite ridiculous for that long anyway. Norman seems a really nice guy and fits all her expectations and Mike... well he is just handsome and a bit shallow and quite insensitive, the opposite of Norman really, right?

Hannah is full of self loading, to fat, no fashion sense.... blah, blah, blah, her mother is prettier, her sisters are prettier and also have a fashion sense, but Hannah doesn't has it... So what, what is her problem??? I don't get it. philly cream cheese cake recipes

It is really annoying, especially because people have to tell her again and again what a lovely person she is..... But like I said, she isn't very bright really, she doesn't know to use a cell phone, a computer, can't find out what channel Animal planet is on..... please.....

When she "solves" a crime, she more of less stumbles on it and than she is so stupid to nearly get killed because she didn't learn of her other mistakes that get her nearly killed.
Jeez...

I still give the book 3 stars and I will read the rest of the books I have on my kindle, and hopefully she will decide about the man in her life before I am to bored to read one other book.

Bob's Red Mill Gluten-Free Brownie Mix, 21-Ounce Packages (Pack of 4)

Bob’s Red Mill gluten-free brownie mix is made from deep and intense dark chocolate flavor combined with a wonderfully moist cake texture and is an instant favorite. Containing the finest Ghirardelli cocoa, it is a must for all chocolate lovers. This mix is specially designed for those sensitive to wheat or gluten. This is sold in pack of four 21-ounce bags.

I really love Bob's Red Mill Gluten free products. They have a much better texture than many of the other packaged "mixes". I love that with these brownies I can make them to take with me to share because my family can't tell the difference between these from the regular gluten brownies. I am the only person who is gluten free in my family. philly cream cheese cake recipes

The only downside to these brownies is that they have a very dark chocolate flavor. My kids didn't like them so I added and extra 1/2 to 1 cup of brown sugar to the mix. That made them taste like a traditional brownie. My kids love them now and so do I.
